A Star Among Sandwiches *Chef’s Kiss*
There’s nothing more iconic than a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on Wonder bread. Sure, there are some tough choices to make (strawberry or grape?), but it’s almost impossible to argue that these aren’t a lunchtime staple for kids of all ages. With ingredients that are easy to find and easier to remember—it’s in the name—there are ample reasons this sandwich comes before any other.
You’ll Need:
4 slices Wonder® Classic White bread
½ cup jelly, any flavor
½ cup peanut butter (crunchy or creamy)
1 cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 tsp baking powder
½ to ¾ cup milk
1 tsp kosher salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
Peanut oil, for frying
2 ¼ cup banana chips (optional)
Powdered sugar (optional)
1 cup white chocolate chips
¼ cup heavy cream
Fried and Chocolate Dipped
Okay, so the PB&J is the perfect sandwich. What can be done to build on perfection? It’s simple—deep fry it and dip it in white chocolate. Battering and deep frying this sandwich make it just a bit more satisfying, and the warm, gooey inside is a new twist on a familiar taste. To (literally) sweeten this sandwich, a white chocolate ganache is a perfect complement to the fried flavor.
Follow these steps:
1. Assemble 2 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, adding banana chips if desired.
2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add ½ cup of milk and the vanilla extract and whisk until a smooth batter forms. If necessary, add more milk to create a dippable consistency.
3. Pour 3 inches worth of oil into a deep pot. Heat oil to 325° F.
4. Making sure all sandwiches are tightly closed, dip 1 sandwich at a time into batter, coating completely. Using tongs, submerge sandwich in oil and fry, about 2-2 ½ minutes per side or until golden brown.
5. Heat white chocolate until melted, occasionally stirring gently with a spatula to help melting. When chocolate is fully melted, slowly whisk in the cream until fully incorporated.
6. Serve sandwiches warm with a dusting of powdered sugar (if desired) and white chocolate ganache on the side for dipping. Enjoy!
